Student Walk Out, February 6, 2026

We have been made aware of social media posts circulating about a planned student walkout scheduled for Friday, February 6th, at 9:22 AM, with a designated meeting location at the Van Nuys Civic Center. We maintain that the safest environment for students is on campus, and as such, the school will open and provide additional opportunities to express their rights on campus. Staff is prepared to monitor those who choose to participate in this community action. We strongly encourage you to take a moment to discuss with your student the importance of maintaining safety, acting responsibly, and demonstrating respect should they elect to participate. School staff will adhere to the established procedure during the period of this community action.

Walkout Procedure Summary

Our Support and Safety Commitment
Our priority during any student action is the physical safety and well-being of our students.

  • School administrators and staff will monitor student groups during a walkout. They will walk alongside students until they join the rally group.  An additional team will monitor the student from a school vehicle.
  • While our staff is there to guide and support, they remain observers. They are instructed not to participate in chants, carry signs, or engage in the protest itself.
  • The school will not take disciplinary action against students solely for participating in a peaceful community action.
  • Staff will encourage safe, respectful, and responsible student behavior. Staff will also communicate back to school any unwanted behaviors, including interactions with law enforcement agencies.

Attendance and Campus Re-entry
It is important for families to understand how a walkout affects school records and the learning environment:

  • Students are marked present while on campus. If a student leaves campus for a walkout, they will be marked absent for the period(s) they are away.
  • To minimize disruption to peers who remain in the classroom, students returning from an action will be held in a designated area until the start of the next class period or block.
  • We make every effort to notify parents if their child participates in a walkout, often through individual phone calls or mass messaging.

Interactions and Safety Protocols
If a situation during a walkout becomes unsafe or involves law enforcement, our staff are instructed to move to a safe distance while continuing to monitor the students and maintain communication with our central administration. Our goal is to encourage safe, responsible, and respectful behavior at all times.
